Biography
(1892 Köln — 1970 Köln)
Having trained as an artist in Cologne
and Dusseldorf, Raederscheidt emigrated in
1934, first to France, from where he
later fled to Switzerland. Thanks to the intercession of the Basel museum director Georg Schmidt, Raederscheidt was spared deportation. He financed the medical treatment of his wife, who had cancer, by selling works to Swiss art lovers. After
her death, he sold his complete oeuvre to
the Galerie Marbach in Berne. In the 1940s, Raederscheidt was in contact with Rupf,
who supported him financially. At least five more works by Raederscheidt made their way into his collection, which were again sold
in 1968 with the agreement of Rupf.
